First Meeting of a New Year

Today marked our first meeting for 2010-2011. The steering team provided the food today, and can I just say I'm still thinking about that chocolate bread pudding! You know it's good when you're tempted to just stand near and inhale deeply! Oh my, the spread was delightful. It was nice to meet new moms, catch up with mom friends, and hear from Angel's mom, Mrs. Esther, who shared her various insights on mothering. Here's some things I took away from her wisdom:
- Be willing to learn from others
- Avoid the temptation to compare yourself to other moms
- Learn to be flexible

Of course, there were many more wonderful nuggets of truth, but oh, how our daily lives would have less stress if we could simply embrace these three. I'm grateful to Mrs. Esther who took time during her vacation here to share with our group.

Our next meeting is August 27. We will meet at the church and then participate in a scavenger hunt. I must warn you now, I take competition seriously. I will try and chill.

Our group is growing -- 2 babies on the way this winter. What a blessing. Help us grow more by inviting other moms to join us. You never know when an invite might end up being life-changing for someone!

Moms Affected by the Floods

We have watched the news these last several days and been stunned by the flooding damage in and around our city. We have been saddened to hear that two of our moms live in a neighborhood that suffered extensive flooding. The good news today is that for one of these families, the flooding is limited. We are waiting to hear from the other. When we know the needs of these families, we are ready to act to help them find a sense of normalcy and recoup some of the items that they have lost.

It is times like this that we have an opportunity to gain some perspective on life. Suddenly the sticky kitchen floor doesn't seem like a disaster. The toys that you trip over in the night are less a nuisance. Hopefully, the little things that we complain about on a daily basis suddenly don't seem worth complaining over. When we turn our focus towards others, life is better. Stay tuned for ways that you can help these families.

Cookbooks are here!

Our Mom2Mom cookbooks are here and they are great! Three hundred recipes from some fabulous cooks! Purchase one for yourself and some for those you love! Cost is $10 and can be bought at our next meeting or by stopping by the church office. All proceeds go to our Mom2Mom group.

Cookbook coming soon!

I am pleased to announce that our Mom2Mom group will soon be publishing a cookbook that will be sold with all profits going to support this local Mom2Mom group. Here's how you can help . . . turn in your favorite recipes! Now, I've been to enough M2M meetings to know that we have some great cooks in our midst, and since I'm the one writing this, I'm going to take the liberty to make specific requests for some of the entries that I want in this cookbook. What about that ham and cheese breakfast casserole, those yummy cinnamon roll-up thingys (Catherine I'm sure you have a more eloquent name for them), the cinnamon pumpkin muffins as a start? You can submit your recipes by placing them in baskets located in either lobby of the church, or you can email them directly to erikaebel@yahoo.com. Also, if you remember a dish from some of our meetings that you think should be included in the cookbook, leave it in the comment section below and we will forward the request to the correct cook! As you can see, you wouldn't even have to know the correct name of the dish to do so! I hope you will all participate in this -- church cookbooks are always filled with wonderful, practical recipes and this could end up being an easy fundraiser that will help our group tremendously!
